With the cost of gas steadily increasing, people need to really take responsibility in finding ways to lower their cost of gas, or to increase their gas mileage. They are one in the same, but people just look at them from different angles. And, if you are a truck owner, then you really need a few tips or strategies to get better gas mileage. I drive a 2003 Chevy Silverado. When I first purchased it, gas was not bad. It was still in the $1.25 - $1.50 range. So, while I was only getting 16-17 miles per gallon (MPG), it was only costing me about $36 to fill up.

I still wanted to get better gas mileage, even then, so I bought a Tonneau cover for the truck. Two things happened right away: 1) My stuff did not get wet any more - don't laugh, true story and 2) My MPG went to about 21 in the city, and 24 on the highway. That, to me, was unheard of.

So, fast forward to today. Now gas prices are at $3.25 where I live. To fill up now, it will cost me about $75. This I can not really control. But what I can control is how often I need to fill up. Having a Tonneau cover can definitely help here. If you increase your MPG by 20%, then you reduce the amount of times you need to fill up by 20%. This is a huge savings.

Depending on the amount you spend on the Tonneau cover, it is only a matter of time before you start making money from this. This really is the way you need to look at it. I bought a hard cover, which was about $600. It took me about 30 tanks of gas before I paid the money back, and now it is that much more money I save each month.

So, if you are thinking you might need to trade in the truck for something to get better gas mileage, you may just need to get a Tonneau cover. This is a simple change you can make and you will see this difference right away.
